Good? Bad? Suggestions? Ideas?

• Proposed 10-minute interactive presentation I'd be interested in doing, ideally in conjunction with one of our visitors from Germany: Global Climate Change and Web 2.0: What We Can Do About It, In the U.S, In Germany, and Working Together. I've trained with Al Gore and have his slideshow as part of The Climate Project, which we can mine for a few relevant slides and handouts about the challenge facing us as a civilization and how we can become part of the solution and green our computers, blogs, websites, tradeshows, and lives. – Raines Cohen (Berkeley, CA), reachable via my first name at the 3-letter nickname for the brand of computer Al Gore uses dot com.

Web Monday is an informal gathering (in and around Germany) aimed at bringing together developers, designers, entrepreneurs, venture capitalists, researchers, web pioneers, inventors, bloggers, podcasters, end users and other folks interested in web 2.0 (in the broadest sense). The goal is to better connect the German web 2.0 scene as well as improve transatlantic idea exchange between Germany and the US (and – hopefully – help bring some of those good Silicon Valley vibes to Germany).

Since its inception in November 2005, Web Monday has spread fast: meetings are now being held in 15+ cities all across Germany on a regular basis and have attracted several hundred repeat participants so far. Meetings have also been held in Vienna (Austria) and Innsbruck (Austria) as well as on Second Life.

Very broadly put, Web Monday is about the future of the internet (especially those parts that will be made in Germany). Anyone involved in web 2.0 or neighboring fields who has an interest in German-US business (or any kind of “bridging” between the two, for that matter) is most welcome to join. Whether you are from Germany and live and work in the Bay Area (and want to help spread the good vibes), or whether you're from here and would like to connect with folks from overseas – Web Monday Silicon Valley is your chance to present your product, your service, your startup, or your next big idea to a growing audience of German web aficionados (some local, some watching via the web). Plus, there's food and drinks.

By the way, we always welcome our European neighbors: Sweden, Switzerland, Norway, The Netherlands, France, Poland, Austria… come on over! There is plenty we can learn from each other!

  5. edelight – edelight is a social shopping community for products you like, gifts and wishes. User can set up an unlimited number of recommending, wish or remembering lists. Other users can search within all the recommendations and find appropriate gifts for their friends or relatives. If you have recommended a product from a partnershop you can even get a revenue commission, if you or someone else buys this product in the shop. You could also connect this feature with the edelight widgets and can then set up your own personalized advertising widget in you blog or community profile.   6. Qype – Qype enables anyone to review service providers, businesses and other public places and offerings to their heart’s content. And at the same time get to know great people who have similar interests and, by a wonderful coincidence, just happen to live around the corner. The basic idea behind Qype is that tips are only ever as good as the level of trust you have in the person who has given you the tip. Up until now it was only your friends that gave you these tips as only they were sure to be able to help you out. We have adopted this phenomenon for Qype. The more places Qype members review, the easier it becomes for others to see just how relevant the recommendation actually is for them. Qype is the collective work of voluntary contributors.
